Thyroid examination

Inspection:

• scars
• moves with swallowing
• no movement with tongue protrusion
• graves eye signs
• proptosis
• lid retraction
• lid lag
• corneal irritation
• listen to voice ?hoarseness

Palpation

• confirm movement with swallowing
• separate Lt and Rt lobes
• nodule or diffuse
• check borders - can get below? retrosternal extension
• tender
• size
• surface
• consistency
• cervical lymph nodes - drain to deep cervical (can met anywhere)

asucultate:

• thrill

percuss:

• retrosternal extension

Thyroid status

• temperature
• sweating
• pulse rate
• reflex - slow in hypothyroid

Investigation:

• FNAC
• USG
• Blood x thyroid function
